As whe youngest contestant at the Danish National Song Contest 2006, 17-year-old Sidsel Ben Semmane won the final performing the song "Twist of Love". The vicory entitles her to represent Denmark at the ESC final on May 20 in Athens, Greece.
Despite her age, Sidsel is an experienced and skilled singer. Since she was 8 years old and until the summer of 2005 she was part of the Girls Choir of Aarhus Music School. She loves singing with the choir, but she is realistic and she knows that taking her A-levels at Aarhus Cathedral School and attending the MGK - a preparation for the Danish Music Academy - will take up all her time.
When she was 11 years old Sidsel started singing solo. She took both rythmic and classical singing lessons and on top of that piano lessons and music theory as well.
Both singing solo and in the choir has been the source of invaluable experiences. On the Aarhus Music School 2001 USA Tour she performed solo in front of 15,000 people at the worlds' largest Mormon Tabernacle, and on tour in South-Africa the choir performed in a poor township in Johannesburg. Sidsel has performed in "The Democrat" and several other musicals.
As a person Sidsel is a fighter and she is focused. She is curious in a positive sense - she loves to feel the rush that comes from taking up new chanllenges.
It is important for Sidsel to have time on her own to reflect about life in general and about the things that happen in the everyday life. This is the basis of the ease of mind and the inner balance, which she needs in order to be able to meet her own demands to herself. |
